Meet Our Team

Lauri Bernet, Owner & Teacher

Lauri has 34 (started teaching in high school) years experience as a private music teacher, and has been a music therapist for 27 years.  She founded Joyful Noise in Fall 1994, and Upward Tutoring in Summer 2020.  Lauri received her BA in Music (Percussion & Voice) in 1994 from Southeast Missouri State University, and completed Master's Coursework in Music Therapy at KU in 1997.  She taught music at Veritas Christian School for 7 years working with 5-12th grade band and choirs, guitar class & Worship Team.  In addition to operating JNMA, Lauri teaches Encore Fine Arts Home school choral and guitar classes during the school year and works for a family business with her brothers.

Stephanie Vaughn, Teacher

 Stephanie has been into music from a young age.  She started playing piano at the age of 8. In high school, Stephanie began playing the guitar and fell in love with it. She attended Riverside Community College, where she studied both classical piano and guitar.  There, she was awarded Musician of the Year.  After RCC, Stephanie was accepted to Chapman University's Conservatory of Performing Arts, where she studied Music Therapy.  At Chapman, she was presented with the Gordon Shaw Scholarship for Music Therapy and The Music Therapy Award of the Year in 2008-2009.  Since then, Stephanie has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy. She has practiced Music Therapy with kids with special needs in CA, and has taught with JNMA since 2013.  Stephanie enjoys teaching elementary music at Veritas Christian School, and she enjoys time with her husband and daughter. 

Belinda Willmoth, Teacher

Belinda is wife to Jeremy and mother to five wonderful children who she homeschools. Belinda began piano lessons at 8 years old and her own piano teacher was a very special person in her life. Belinda was awarded a piano scholarship and went on to study music and piano at William Jewell College, where she developed a love of teaching music to children of all ages.
Currently, she serves as Music Director & keyboardist at Velocity church in Lawrence, KS. She has been playing piano, organ and keyboard instruments in churches since 9 years old. Church music is certainly her passion.
Belinda spends a lot of time outdoors with her family, hiking, running and playing with their new puppy.
